This month, we’re going to visit with a couple of Arcana creators, one who has a book hitting the shelves any day and another who is hard at work finishing theirs and can use your help!

To start, let’s take a look at All Fall Down, written by Casey Jones with spectacular art from Jason Reeves, Gian Fernando, Brian Brinlee, Anvit Randeria, Pericles Junior, and Barnaby Bagenda. All Fall Down explores what happens to superheroes and supervillains who lose their powers. Unlike other titles where death and the loss of powers is almost always temporary, the characters in All Fall Down have lost theirs forever. It’s also a coming-of-age story for thirteen year old Sophie Mitchell, who now has every superpower known to man. She can’t turn them off, or even give them back.

Below are some preview pages from the book so you can take a look inside All Fall Down. Be sure to pick up a copy now from your local comic shop or order it online. To read more about the project, you can head over to Casey Jones web site (CLICK HERE) where you can read about the inspiration of the book and other sample artwork. You can also go to the All Fall Down site on Shelfari (CLICK HERE) to read more about the book, character descriptions, etc… There’s a lot going on with this book, so be sure to pick up a copy!

In the coming months, you will hear more about the project Enter The Hero, which is in development now. The creative team is hard at work finishing the book, but they could use your help! They have started a KickStarter campaign with the noble goal of allowing the artist to set aside a healthy chunk of time to dedicate to the project. Take a look at some artwork from the project below and judge for yourself! You can read more about the book and the KickStarter campaign over at the campaign’s link, which you can reach by CLICKING HERE. Some of the incentives for contributing include art cards, a limited edition poster, t-shirts, and more.

Here’s some info on the project, too!

Written by Michael Heitkemper with art by Simon Butler, the book tells of an ordinary day. People go to work; they come home. They kick back and turn on the television. There’s been a terrible tragedy. Miraculously, out of nowhere a super hero has appeared and saved the day. No one knows who he is or what he’s capable of. All they can do is call him, “The Hero”. One year later, the Hero still protects the innocent from harm while maintaining his secrecy. Little does the Hero know that those secrets must unravel in order to stop the current threat to his city.

SideShows, which debuted in limited quantities at SDCC 2010 in advance of its official reelase, will appear in Diamond Previews’ December issue (Diamond Code DEC110804 / ISBN 978-1-926914-51-0). The book made quite a splash and even drew the attention of some major creators in the comic book industry. See below for a preview and some quotes.

  • “Dark, disturbing, envelope-pushing stuff. Bring your brain and pay attention. The ride is worth it.” – Jim Shooter (MAGNUS ROBOT FIGHTER, DOCTOR SOLAR)
  • “A cool story, told with loads of pace and verve.” – Mike Carey (UNWRITTEN, X-MEN LEGACY)
  • “Energetic, dynamic art and a great story. I enjoyed this thoroughly, and you will, too.” – Mark Waid (DAREDEVIL, IRREDEEMABLE)
  • “Vegas gangsters, circus freaks, magic, guns and violence – all served up in a blaze of glory that burns across the page.” – J.T. Krul (GREEN ARROW, TEEN TITANS)

Written by Erik Hendrix with art by Michael David Nelsen, SideShows is set in 1950′s Las Vegas, where the mob enlisted former circus attractions as their aces in the hole. These SideShows had a little secret… they really did have the abilities they pretended to. The Rat Pack was in their prime, the bartenders knew your name, and the same guy who comped your rooms could put a hit on you for stiffing him a tip. High rollers, lounge singers, cigarettes, alcohol, and superpowers. Welcome to Las Vegas!
